Credit Help-
Having a credit card can be very rewarding. Not having to pay for everything in
cash means that you can go to a store and buy just about anything you want. But
with all that spending power, there are also some draw backs. If you misuse
your credit card, you may end up in a down ward spiral of debt, which can haunt
you for years to come. That is why it is always important to use your credit
card responsibly. The following will give you all the information you need,
before you start spending with that credit card, the ups and downs.
Before you apply for a
credit card, it is wise to compare all the terms and conditions on all the
different cards you are thinking about getting, as these options will affect
your overall cost. Credit cards are a form of borrowing that often involves
changes. The introductory rate maybe low when you first get the card, but what
about 6 months from now, will it be the same or go higher? This is why it is
always wise to shop around for the best deals possible before you settle on the
first offer that comes into your mail box.
When you start looking at
which credit cards you would like to apply for there are some things you should
be looking for. Start off by looking at the APR or annual percentage rate. The
APR is a measure of the cost of credit, expressed as a yearly interest rate.
Normally, the lower the APR is on a credit card, the better for you.
The second thing you should
look at is the grace period. The grace period on credit cards is the time
between the date of the credit card purchase and the date the company starts to
charge you interest on it.
The third thing you should
be looking for is the transaction fees and other charges that the credit card
company charges you if you don’t make a payment on time. Other common credit
card fees include those for cash advances and going beyond the credit limit.
Some credit cards charge a flat fee every month, whether you use your card or
not.
And the last thing you
should be looking for when applying for a credit card are the other options that
they offer you. Most creditors will offer other options for a price, including
discounts, rebates and special merchandise offers. If your card is lost or
stolen, federal law protects you from owing more than $50 per card—but only if
you report that it was lost or stolen within two days of discovering the loss or
theft. Paying for additional protection may not be a good value.
Now that you know what you
should be looking for when you apply for your first credit card, you will be
prepared not to make a costly mistake. Always remember though, that you
shouldn’t spend more on your credit card then you can afford. You should try
and repay your full credit card debt in full every month if possible, so that
you avoid large interest rates and fees.
